From Backyard Smoker to the Best BBQ in Salt Lake Valley
Some of the best ideas start over good food and great conversation, and that’s exactly how Kenny J’s BBQ was born.
For years, Kenny and Mary Jackson have been feeding family, friends, and neighbors—just because they love bringing people together over incredible BBQ. It all started back in 2018 when Kenny bought his first smoker and began perfecting the craft of low and slow-smoked meats. When the world slowed down in 2020, the Jacksons stepped up, feeding their community with meals made from the heart.
In 2023, Kenny & Mary took things to the next level with a 250-gallon smoker from LV Smokers, catering everything from weddings and corporate events to charity fundraisers. But it wasn’t until January 2024—on Kenny’s birthday—that he realized it was time to turn his passion into a full-time business.
When he told his boss his age, the response was life-changing:
"That’s how old I was when I started this place."
That night, he went home and asked his wife "Mary, what am I doing?”
Her answer? “You cook, I’ll clean!” And just like that, Kenny J’s BBQ was born.
Bringing the Best of Texas BBQ to Utah
Kenny and Mary traveled across Texas and beyond to research what makes real, authentic southern style BBQ so they could bring it home to the Salt Lake Valley. They took notes, learned from the best, and developed a signature menu that brings together bold flavors, high-quality meats, and handcrafted techniques.
Everything at Kenny J’s BBQ is made from scratch—no shortcuts, no compromises. Our brisket comes from Creekstone Farms, known for the highest quality beef, and we put in the time and effort to hand-trim, season, and smoke everything to perfection.
